Florian Frerichs’ new adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s acclaimed erotic novella that inspired Stanley Kubrick ) creation Keep your eyes open — promises to be a more definitive version of the story. The trailer for the film, which opens this year’s Oldenburg Film Festival on September 11, is full of heat and seriousness (see below).
Nikolay Kinski (barbarian) and Lauryn Price (Phoenix) stars a respectable upper-middle-class couple living in Berlin who are drawn into a secret and dangerous world of erotic fantasy. Detlef Back, Bruno Aaron and Nora Israel co-star, with guest appearances by Sharon Brauner and Sharon Kovacs. Produced by Warnuts Entertainment and Studio Babelsberg.
Frerichs fantasy novella Many plots follow Kubrick’s adaptation. Jacob (Kinski), a doctor who treats the city’s rich and famous, is forced to take action after his wife, Amelia (Price), admits to having a sexual fantasy about another man. Interest in a secret sex “dance” attended by some of the city’s most prominent citizens develops. Despite being warned that participating could ruin his life, he disguised himself in a cloak and mask and managed to infiltrate.
Schnitzler Originally published in 1926 fantasy novella It has been adapted for the screen several times, most notably in Kubrick’s 1999 feature film starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. The show took a record-breaking 400 days to film. Kubrick died shortly after the film was completed and six days after Kidman and Cruise’s cut was screened.
