Spider-Man: No Way Home was released almost three years ago, and it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about Spider-Man’s next adventure. But now, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks with Marvel Studios and Sony to direct “Spider-Man 4.” And the film is likely to start shooting soon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , Marvel and Sony plan to film a sequel early next year. Tom Holland will return as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and the writing team of Chris McKenna and Eric Summers will also return for the new film.
Assuming Cretton goes through with the deal, he will become the fourth live-action Spider-Man director since the original film was released in 2002. Two “Amazing Spider-Man” movies. Most recently, Jon Watts co-directed his own Spider-Man trilogy with Holland.
Cretton had previously signed on to direct “Avengers 5,” which at the time was called “Avengers: Reign of Kang.” He subsequently resigned from the role before Marvel adapted it into Avengers: Endgame, and the Russo brothers were hired to direct both that film and Avengers: Secret Wars. Cretton has also been busy working on Marvel’s live-action Wonder Man series, and he also plans to direct Shang-Chi 2. When will production of the sequel begin?
A release date for Spider-Man 4 has not yet been set, but a summer 2026 release could fit in well with Marvel’s movie schedule.
