Since 2012, the V/H/S series has been delivering clever, terrifying thriller experiences and has built a growing following among horror fans.
Normally, after 12 years and six movies, excitement for the next sequel starts to dry up.
But the anthology format allows the folks at V/H/S to keep the scary stuff fresh year after year.
So with a full three weeks until Shudder premieres, anticipation for V/H/S/Beyond is at its peak.
With the spooky season upon us, we now have posters and trailers to further whet your appetite.
The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot (although we’re promised “the greatest discovery in human history,” which is nothing to sneeze at).
We have the same lo-fi, found footage aesthetic as the previous V/H/S films, but it looks like this one will take us in more of a sci-fi direction.
Fans of Event and the Alien movies rejoice!
As per tradition, Beyond will feature a series of short films directed by some of the biggest names in horror, as well as a handful of newcomers.
To further pique the interest of horror fans, this issue features a segment directed by Katie Siegel and written by her husband and frequent collaborator Mike Flanagan.
Flanagan, of course, is the mad genius behind hit Netflix limited series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher, among other hits.
Segal has had memorable performances in all of these series (who can forget her role as Theo Crain on Hill House?) as well as in Flanagan feature films like Oculus, Hush and the upcoming Stephen King’s adaptation of “The Life of Chuck”).
Actor Justin Long and “V/H/S” series veteran Justin Martinez also direct.
For horror fans, it’s an embarrassing experience, and one that’s sure to be repeated by anyone who takes down their Halloween decorations the day after Labor Day.
V/H/S/Beyond will premiere on Shudder on October 4th.
