Raiders of the Lost Ark may be a first-person game, but that doesn’t mean MachineGames is making it a full-on shooter.
MachineGames is known for its first-person shooters, in fact, it’s even been praised for them, particularly its fondness for games that have you outright destroying Nazis (i.e. Wolfenstein), which Raiders of the Lost Ark often does as well Do. But Indy doesn’t do much with guns (except for that famous scene). He’s more of a whip and fist person, and the game’s creative director Axel Torvenius recently spoke to Edge magazine (via GamesRadar) about not relying too heavily on gunplay, which the team considers to be more of a “fallback solution.” ”.

“We don’t encourage gunfights. It’s not seen as the main way forward,” Tovinius explained. “The main way forward is always to try to use your wits and your whip.” People who know these movies also know that Indiana Jones is the kind of character who uses his wits to defeat people rather than just outright shoot them, because he’s basically just a regular Archaeologist (if you ignore all the adventures he goes on).
“Indy has no superpowers,” Tovinius continued. “A lot of the time, you can tell he doesn’t have an easy fight. At the end of the day, he’s a teacher and he’s a kind of awkward archaeologist. He just happens to have this passion that keeps getting him into these weird situations.” with enemies and traps.
“It would be unreal to have this character constantly shooting camps for all enemies, and the team at MachineGames wanted to emphasize the level of danger. We’ve been working hard to capture the feeling that if you need to be involved in combat, it’s very dangerous to be shot at enemies. Shooting is also very dangerous as they will have alarm systems and reinforcements.
Honestly, that sounds pretty reassuring considering most of the memorable scenes in the original movie weren’t about big gunfights or anything like that.
Raiders of the Lost Ark finally got a release date at Gamescom, which is obviously great news for Xbox and PC fans – but PlayStation fans will also be happy to see they can play the game too (even though its Posted a little later) after).
