World of Warcraft is approaching its twentieth anniversary, which means players can look forward to a massive mid-patch update that will bring back many of the game’s most legendary armor sets, dungeons, and bosses for a limited time. In addition, Tenaris will host a festival to celebrate the game, where players will participate in mount competitions, costume contests and receive valuable rewards.
Late last night, executive producer and vice president Holly Longdale, associate game designer Leah Hwang and senior game designer Bret Cocking announced the news through a roundtable video released on the official platform of “World of Warcraft”. This is a pretty big update, more so than previous anniversary events. This is what’s to come!

Let’s start with that festival, which according to the developers is the main part of the update. All of the anniversary vendors will be in attendance, along with many more fun community-driven events. Fashion shows, masquerades, mounts, new battle pets and new mounts are all here. Add in these refreshed Time Walk vendors, and it’s safe to say you’ll be spending a lot of time in Tanaris.
Speaking of time walking, it’s coming back in a big way. Classic dungeons including Deadmines, Zul’Farrak, Dire Maul, and Stratholme (the last two with two wings each) will return and will be available to characters above level 10. Been around for a while, so expect an inventory refresh.
This isn’t the only classic dungeon that’s beloved. Blackrock Depths will return as a limited-time raid, a 10-15 player raid. There are eight main bosses and five mini-bosses, spanning three difficulty levels. It’s a complete refresh of the instance, and therefore a step up from the Molten Core Anniversary Raid, which returns for the game’s tenth time.
As far as raid bosses go, bad guys from both the old and new worlds are coming too. I couldn’t believe we needed to defeat Kel’Thuzad again, but it turns out we do, as he’ll be appearing alongside Tichondrius and Osirion the Unscarred. In terms of world bosses, the three Emerald Dragon world bosses from the classic era have returned. Azugos, Kazzak, Sha of Wrath, and finally Stone Warden Aqiwen will appear in the world and fight.
But perhaps the most important of all the new additions to the 20th Anniversary Edition are the updated Level 2 sets, which see some of World of Warcraft’s most popular raid sets get a visual refresh. Classes that didn’t appear in Tier 2 are getting new sets tailored to their important roles (for example, Death Knights are getting the Lich King set). They look shocking.
The event is expected to last for over two months, but an official date for patch 11.05 has yet to be announced. World of Warcraft launches on November 23rd, so who knew? Maybe it will land on the same day this year? Either way, it’s sure to get you through Christmas. There is plenty of time to earn all these rewards.
