We’re now thirty years into the Harry Potter era, and Quidditch Champions is only the second Quidditch-related video game ever made, and the first real Give fictional sports the real sports video game treatment, like NBA 2K or EA Sports FC. The difficulty in adapting to the game was understandable – the Quidditch rules in the book are very strange and unbalanced, so making the necessary fixes while maintaining the Quidditch feel was something we knew would have to be a difficult task.
Now, Quidditch Champions launches with a fairly modest price tag of $30, and since it’s a modern online multiplayer live service game, it comes with a free battle pass that lets you unlock new cosmetics like Broomsticks, wands, emotes, various accessories, and Ron Wesley player skins. Leveling up is easy: just play the game and complete daily and weekly XP challenges.
In addition to all this fun stuff, you also get three different currencies from the pass that can be used to unlock more cosmetics and broom upgrades. There are 50 levels in the pass, and along the way you’ll earn 100 Wing Keys, 200 Moonstones, and 500 Gold Coins. Winged keys are used to buy cosmetics from the vault, gold coins are used to buy cosmetics from the market (it’s unclear why these are separate shops), and moonstones are used for broom upgrades. By upgrading the Season Pass above level 50, you will receive additional Wing Keys, and by increasing your career level, you will earn coins and moonstones.
Fortunately, despite this ThatQuidditch Champions currently lacks microtransactions – the only way to purchase currency is to upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, which comes with 2,000 gold coins. But you can only do this once. Everything else can only be gained by playing.
