MIYAVI is a guitarist who has gained worldwide attention for his unconventional “slap guitar” style, in which he plays the electric guitar with his fingers instead of a pick. He has performed more than 380 live performances in more than 30 countries and has conducted 9 successful world tours. Other achievements include performing the national anthem at Dodger Stadium in the United States, opening the National Stadium during Paris Saint-Germain’s soccer team’s visit to Japan, and providing music and halftime performances for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.
In addition to his musical pursuits, MIYAVI made his Hollywood debut in the Angelina Jolie film Unbreakable. He also appeared on the runway at Paris Fashion Week as a model for Yohji Yamamoto and Y-3, and was the first Japanese to appear in a GUCCI global series of ads. In recent years, he has also been actively involved in advertising campaigns for companies such as Dell and McLaren. In 2017, he became the first Japanese to be appointed as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
