Nova It’s been in the works for a while, and Marvel’s streaming chief has revealed some expectations for the series.
Many of you may have never heard of Nova before, even though he’s a relatively popular character in the comics, but you may recognize his appearance. The Nova Corps actually appeared in the original “Guardians of the Galaxy” a full decade ago, and while the movie established the Corps, it didn’t yet establish the superhero Nova. Back in July, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed that the “Nova” series was in active development, even if it’s still three to four years away, and now Marvel’s head of streaming, TV and animation has revealed Rudd Winderbaum shared more information about the series while speaking with Phase Zero’s Brandon Davis.

“Nova is currently in development, but we’re developing more stuff than we’re making. This is the new Marvel,” which seems to be a reference to Marvel’s ongoing attempts to slow down its production. “We should talk about this. At Marvel, everything is under the spotlight. We love Nova and we want to get it right.” He went on to explain that it and a few other things are in development, but that Marvel won’t be “working on it.” We won’t continue the show until we’re happy with the pilot and the Bible.”

Winderbaum also spoke about some of the things that inspired the series, continuing: “I’m very inspired by what Star Trek has been doing over the past few years in terms of covering universe stories on Disney+… Developed by Nova Now, it’s an amazing ensemble piece and I shouldn’t say too much about it but it’s like a great case of a shadowed character. [Star] Trek, shadows of Battlestar Galactica.
Obviously, according to Winderbaum, we’re still years away from a Nova show, but it sounds like it’s at least starting in the right place. For those who don’t know Nova, the show will reportedly tell the story of the original Richard Rider, a high school student who gained cosmic powers from a dying member of the Nova Corps in space. Traveling, fighting bad guys, it’s common stuff. Who knows if the show will be anything like that, so for now you’ll just have to wait and see.
