Out of all the things players can do in this popular game, one of the most searched-for by the community is how to design your own clothes for your avatar. In fact, the original designs you create can even be put up for sale, letting you earn a few free Robux if your creations are good enough
Below, we have prepared this entry in our guide for the most creative Roblox players who want to get into clothing design and learn how to start making their own avatar outfits, as well as how to sell them
Requirements to create clothes in Roblox
First of all, you should know that in Roblox you can only create shirts, T-shirts and pants for your avatar. These are the clothing items you will be able to make. However, in order to access clothing creation, you need to meet one basic requirement:
- You will need to have a Roblox Premium account.
The minimum monthly payment for a Roblox Premium membership is 450 Robux, which works out at 4.99. Also, remember that the clothes you design must follow the Roblox Community Standards
In the past, Roblox Premium was known as Builders Club, as well as Turbo Builders Club or Outrageous Builders Club, but those names were replaced by the current Roblox Premium system. We mention this in case you see Builders Club mentioned in an official support article or on another website, so you know they are actually referring to a Premium account. This is required both for creating clothes and for selling them to other players
How to create clothes in Roblox
To create clothes in Roblox, besides having a Premium account, you will need a few things before getting started. Below, we show you everything you need:
Official clothing templates
Roblox offers users who want to create clothes a couple of official templates that can be used as a guide when designing clothing, the same ones you can see in the image above. These templates will come in really handy, and you can download them completely free below:
Template dimensions
Keep in mind that the dimensions for Roblox clothing templates are as follows:
- 585 pixels wide.
- 559 pixels tall.
You must always keep this 585×559-pixel template size so there are no problems later when uploading them to the game
What program should you use to design clothes?
You need to open the templates we have shared in an editing program in order to create your clothing designs. From here, it depends on each users skills and the programs you have available
- For example, you can design clothes in Paint, a very basic piece of software, although of course it has limitations.
- The best option is to use a more advanced vector editing program, such as Adobe Illustrator. A free alternative is Inkscape.
- That said, image editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop or Gimp can also work, with Gimp also being free.
If you do not know how these programs work, feel free to look for tutorials online. You will find hundreds of them, and they can be very helpful when learning how their tools work
The idea is to respect the template size and stay within the borders of each section. The templates support 8-bit alpha channels. Once you have finished designing your clothing, make sure to save your template in “.jpg” or “.png” format, as either one will work
How to upload your clothing items to the game
Once you have finished creating your custom clothes in Roblox, the next step is to upload them to the game so you can use them on your account and with your avatar. This will also let you see how your design looks in all its glory
To upload your clothing items to Roblox, all you have to do is the following:
- Open Roblox on the computer where you designed the clothes and log in with your account.
- Now go to the “Create” menu.
- In the “My Creations” section, select “Shirts” from the list to upload shirts, “T-Shirts” if you want to upload a T-shirt, or “Pants” if you want to upload pants.
- Once you are inside one of these sections, you need to select the file for the template you saved in “.jpg” or “.png” format.
- Then give your clothing item a name.
- Finally, click the green “Upload” button.
If you have followed all the steps correctly, the clothing item you created will automatically be uploaded to Robloxs servers and will be saved to your account permanently. After that, you can go straight to your avatar customization menu, find the clothing item and equip it
How to sell clothes and earn Robux
Now we come to the final step. After creating your own clothes and uploading them to the servers, you can choose to put them up for sale to earn free Robux and let other users in the community wear them too. It is a great way to share your talent and get credit for your work
If you want to put clothes up for sale, do the following:
- Go to the Roblox “Create” menu.
- Open the “My Creations” tab and enter “Shirts” to sell shirts, “T-Shirts” if you want to sell T-shirts, or “Pants” if you want to sell pants.
- Once you are in one of these sections, you will see the clothes you have created and uploaded to your Roblox account. To the right of each item, there is a gear icon.
- Click the gear icon for the clothing item you want to sell.
- Then click “Configure” and go to the “Sales” section.
- In this section, activate the “Item for Sale” checkbox.
Once you have enabled the sale of a clothing item, you just need to set a price. Choose how many Robux you want to sell it for and finally click the Save button to register it
From that moment on, that clothing item will be on sale in the huge Roblox Catalog, and any user will be able to buy it in exchange for the amount of Robux you set. Try not to set prices too high, otherwise you probably will not sell many units, because nobody likes overpriced items. In general, clothes in Roblox usually cost between 10 and 100 Robux
Note: clothes can never be put up for sale for free; they must cost at least 5 Robux. You will always earn 70% of the final price. The Robux you receive from a sale stay in a pending status, also known as escrow, for three business days before being paid into your account
