While you may have heard news about a Batman game, DC Studios executives are downplaying such things.
For years, Marvel has released movies that relied heavily on post-production restorations that gave everything a surprisingly fake quality, and The Batman’s release in 2022 shows that, yes, you can actually make one that actually looks good The superhero movie is like a movie. It also proved itself at the box office, with critics and fans alike being won over by it. So when Puck claimed to be developing a game “rooted in the 2022 Batman movie,” it obviously sparked a lot of excitement. The only problem? According to James Gunn himself, no game is currently in development. Woohoo!

Earlier this week, Gunn was asked directly by a fan if reports of a game being sent to the Batman universe were true, to which Gunn simply responded: “Sadly, that’s simply not true.” Sadly. Yes, a lot of work has been done there, as it sounds like Gunn would love to have a game that exists in the same universe, but apparently there isn’t one currently in development. Part of what lends credence to this rumor is that Warner Bros. has previously expressed interest in making a canon game for Gunn’s new DCU, though I don’t think Davit Zaslav Sr. realizes how little that actually would be given its current state. Maybe in the gaming industry.

Although he’s appeared in recent titles like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, there hasn’t been a Batman solo game in several years. We’re definitely late to the game now, and there’s a VR Arkham game coming soon, although I suspect it’s not what most people want.
