Hell, while the Until Dawn remake won’t be released until October, its developer, Ballistic Moon, appears to have already laid off staff.
While Ballistic Moon has yet to make an official statement (as seen on Resetera ), and the exact number of layoffs has yet to be made clear, several developers at the studio have shared their layoff plans on their personal LinkedIn accounts. Cassy Cornish wrote: “Like so many others in this wonderful but volatile industry, I’m sad to be laid off.” Another developer, Harry Williams, shared, “At Ballistic Moon After two exciting years working on the wonderful Until Dawn 2024, I have sadly been laid off as a technical designer. I loved working with everyone at BM and hope to be able to work with members of the family. In future projects!

As of this writing, it doesn’t appear that any other member of the team has shared the news of being fired, but regardless, it clearly adds to the tens of thousands of situations that have happened across the industry over the past year. The studio was founded a few years ago and is led in part by former Supermassive Games developers, and the upcoming Until Dawn remake will be the studio’s first game. As of now, the game is set to release on October 4, but again there’s no word on what impact the layoffs might have.
It’s not the only studio suffering losses before its games have a chance to shine this week, as even though Seiken Densetsu: Secret of Mana just launched on Thursday, developer Ouka Studios is already planning to shut down just one day after launch . Hopefully this isn’t a sign of more premature layoffs.
