If you see a commercial for a Tom Hanks movie that promises you a cure for something, the man himself wants you to know it’s false.
On Thursday night, the actor posted a PSA on Instagram about an AI-generated video using his image that has appeared on social media.

“There are multiple ads on the internet that mistakenly use my name, likeness and voice to promote miracle cures and miracle drugs,” Hanks wrote in the post. “These ads were created through artificial intelligence without my consent. Fraudulently produced.”

“I am not affiliated with these posts, the products and treatments, or the spokespersons promoting these treatments,” Hanks continued. “I have type 2 diabetes and I only work with board-certified doctors for treatment. Don’t be fooled .Don’t be cheated. Don’t lose your hard earned money.”
This isn’t the first time Hanks has issued such a warning. Last October, he shared an AI-generated video of himself “promoting some dental plans” (for some reason, Hanks seems to be a go-to for medical-themed AI pranks) and warned that he ” Nothing to do”.
Artificial intelligence error messages have become a growing problem. As technology becomes more advanced, widespread, and accessible, the problem only seems to get worse.
