Apple is reportedly in talks with OpenAI to invest in its latest round of funding.

Venture capital firm Thrive Capital led the round, which will value OpenAI at more than $100 billion. Apple analyst Mark Gurman also reported on the rumored investment, adding that Nvidia and Microsoft would also be involved.
So, yes, three of the most valuable tech companies in the world want to participate in what OpenAI has to offer.

Apple’s Artificial Intelligence Plan
Microsoft has been a major investor in OpenAI since 2019, injecting $13 billion into the artificial intelligence company. The deal gives Microsoft exclusive access to the OpenAI LLM, which allows it to enhance its own AI productivity tools and capabilities. But Microsoft and OpenAI are no longer exclusive.

At Apple’s WWDC event in June, the tech giant announced a partnership with OpenAI, which will integrate ChatGPT functionality in the iOS 18 update. Apple Intelligence functionality is currently in beta, but ChatGPT-related functionality has not yet been released.
Apple has been cautious about its artificial intelligence plans, largely sitting on the sidelines as other big tech companies compete for AI dominance. But Apple’s partnership with OpenAI in June was its first major foray into the field of artificial intelligence.
Apple is reportedly exploring partnerships with Google, Meta and Anthropic to provide users with artificial intelligence models of their choice on their devices. But now, Apple’s investment in OpenAI is reportedly a major move to strengthen the relationship – especially since Apple rarely invests in new startups.
