The existence of a PS5 “Pro” model is basically an open secret, and some even say developers at Gamescom are openly discussing its existence. That leaves us with nothing to do but wait and see when Sony finally lifts the lid on an update to its console.
Well, it looks like we won’t have to wait too long. According to Dealabs user billbil-kun, who has an impressive track record, Sony will officially launch the new console in the first half of September, and its name will indeed be PS5 Pro. You can read this article via Google Translate here.
But Billbil-kun’s information goes deeper than that, as he claims to have the official packaging for the console. Due to copyright reasons, bilbil-kun cannot share the actual packaging, but instead drew the image above. As you can see, it looks very much like the existing PS5 Slim, but with a new set of stripes running down the middle of the outside of the machine. billbil-kun did say it looks slightly thicker than the slim one.
The authors speculate that these panels may be compatible with existing options.
The model shown apparently doesn’t have a disc drive, and bilbil-kun says they’re not currently sure if there will be a version that includes a drive.
Finally, the article confirms that the console will come with a standard Dualsense controller.
Unfortunately, no new details were revealed about the console’s performance. Back in April, Youtuber Moore’s Law Is Dead leaked official Sony documents discussing the machine. The files were verified by IGN, but the original footage was removed by Sony due to a copyright claim, essentially confirming their authenticity.
It’s difficult to know exactly what performance gains we can expect to see, as architectural changes make comparisons tricky. However, based on the ongoing debate on the Internet, a rough guess seems to be that we can increase the overall speed by 30%-45%. But that doesn’t take into account the new PSSR machine learning, which may be the console’s secret sauce.
Does the PS5 Pro appeal to you?
