Making caviar in Stardew Valley requires a few more steps than it looks. Making this craft requires a specific type of fish and well-preserved jars. Similar to other artifacts in Stardew Valley, caviar is more valuable than the product it is made from, and it has other uses, such as being a popular gift. Caviar is also used in the Cinema Bundle, which is unlocked after completing one of the main storylines.
How to make caviar
Caviar is made by placing sturgeon roe in preserve jars. While you can age any roe you obtain in preserves jars, only sturgeon roe can be turned into caviar. There are two ways to obtain sturgeon roe, but only one of them is consistently productive.
The first method is to place the sturgeon in a fish tank, where it will produce sturgeon roe on a semi-regular basis. To build a fish pond, you need to give 200 stones, 5 seaweed, 5 green algae and 5000G to the carpenter. It will take the carpenter three days to build the fish pond. After that, you need to catch sturgeon, a fish that can only be caught in summer and winter. Place the sturgeon into the pond.
There is only one sturgeon in the pond at the beginning. In order to breed, you need to bring the required items to complete the tasks of the fish pond. The more sturgeons in a pond, the higher the chance of producing roe each day.
Once the number of fish reaches the maximum number, the mission will appear every few days.
The tasks are:
- 1 sturgeon – 1 diamond
- 3 sturgeons – 1 jelly or 1 pickle or 2 maple syrup
- 5 sturgeons – 3 omnidirectional geodes
- 7 sturgeons – 1 nautilus shell
