World of Warcraft: Civil War officially launches today, which means you – yes, you – can launch the game right now and enjoy this lovely new expansion experience. This is the perfect time to play an MMO, you know, before everything settles down and you have to do raids every week.
In the expansion, you and other players will venture deep into the heart of Azeroth in search of loot, Xal’atath, and about a billion giant spiders who, ironically, don’t like you hanging around very much. It’s already playable for those who purchased the special (and more expensive) version of the expansion, but now the doors are open for the entire player base to join.

As for what’s available now, the entire leveling experience is there, as are exploration and full dungeons on Normal and Heroic difficulty. Fast forward to September 10, and the raid’s normal, heroic, and raid finder tiers were released (with raid finder initially locked to the first wing), giving players the first truly difficult content in the expansion.
But if you ask some of the most dedicated World of Warcraft players, September 17th is the date to circle, because that’s when you get Mythic plus dungeons and raids on Mythic difficulty. This is what all good players will be fighting against for the foreseeable future. Everyone else will be farming mounts, pet combat, hunting transmogrifications, and begging for mythic content nerfs. This is the way of the world (World of Warcraft).
The initial response seems to be very positive too! Since Shadowlands basically ended, recent expansions have done pretty well upon release, and like I wrote at the top, this is truly one of the best times to get into a World of Warcraft expansion. Don’t let all the spiders put you off, the game has a very solid arachnophobia mode.
