Denzel Washington is one of the greatest actors of our time, winner of two Academy Awards and nominated for eight.

“There are very few movies that interest me anymore. I have to be inspired by the filmmakers, and Ridley was a big inspiration.”

The sequel stars Paul Mescal as an adult Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of the original film’s villain Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix.

A series of events brings Lucius back to Rome as a gladiator, where he makes new enemies and reunites with his mother. Washington plays Macrinus, a wealthy power broker in Rome who raised a team of gladiators for sport.
