Every player’s most pressing question as the new season begins Diablo 4 It’s which class and build they should play. It’s easy for me because I choose the same things almost every season. But sometimes, you want to change things up, try something new, and stick with it until the end! So let’s solve the problem for the Necromancer.

Bone Spear is one of the best Necromancer builds in Season 5 Diablo 4. It is powerful, flexible, and capable of pushing the Abyss and Hell Hordes. You will surpass your friends!
Why you should play the Necromancer in Season 5
The Necromancer isn’t the most powerful class in Season 5 – that honor goes to the Rogue and the Sorcerer this time. That said, the Necromancer remains one of the most effective and viable classes for driving end-game content Diablo 4even with many nerfs and unique changes.
Most people end up choosing the Necromancer for two reasons: aesthetics and minions. While minion builds are still possible –Currently one of the most powerful builds— Bone Spear has proven itself to be a powerful and dynamic playstyle that feels satisfying.
Necromancer’s best active skills

In Season 5, we’ll be focusing on making the Bone Necromancer, specifically wielding a bone spear to deal massive damage to vulnerable enemies. You’ll notice that many of the active skill enhancements inflict vulnerability, which allows our builds to deal extra damage. It’s all about synergy!
bone fragments
- Our base skill, Bone Break, is our main Essence generator. This is a quick basic attack designed to damage your standard adds while building up our essence pool so we can cast Bone Spear. It also has the added benefit of causing fragility, thanks to the Initiate’s Bone Shards.
Bone Spear
- Our core skill, Bone Spear, is the foundation of the entire build. This is our primary damage-dealing attack, but requires a constant stream of Essence from Bone Break to cast. Through various enhancements, such as Enhanced Bone Spear and Supernatural Bone Spear, we can deal extra damage with each cast.
Bone Hell
- You don’t need to reach the Bone Prison cap to enjoy its benefits – a little is enough. But what you really want is its enhancement, the Enhanced Bone Prison, which causes vulnerability to enemies within its radius.
Bone Spirit
- As our essence pool grows, Bone Spirit allows us to drain the entire pool thanks to the passive skill, in exchange for a single-target high-damage attack suitable for elite and boss enemies.
Bone Storm
- Finally, our ultimate ability is Bone Storm. It summons a massive storm of bones that spins around you, dealing massive damage over a short period of time. It’s great for clearing out mobs and as the start of a boss fight.
Necromancer’s Passive Skills

You can put as many skill points into your passive skills as you want, although they synergize well with this build when combined with your active skills.
inanimate energy
- Dead Energy gives us more Essence to extract, ensuring we can cast Bone Spear more often, while also synergizing with Ossification Essence for extra damage.
imperfect balance
- We need the extra essence provided by non-living energy, as imperfect balance increases the overall cost of our core abilities (like Bone Spear), but gives extra damage as a trade-off.
death’s embrace
- While the Necromancer is a spellcaster and therefore tends to attack from a distance, most enemies will close the range. Death’s Embrace allows us to deal extra damage to close enemies while reducing the damage they take.
Death approaches
- Death Approach can increase our total movement speed when we need to create space between bosses or creatures. It’s a simple passive that increases survivability, allowing us to clear faster and more efficiently.
sawtooth
- For every 30 Essence spent, Sawtooth increases our critical strike chance, which synergizes with Bone Spear, which is drawn from our Essence pool as our core ability.
compound fracture
- Synergizing with Sawtooth, Compound Fracture allows our Bones abilities to deal extra damage after a critical hit, further enhancing the capabilities of the entire build.
rapid ossification
- You’ll frequently drain your Essence when popping Bone Spears. To make up for the lack of an empty pool, Rapid Bones reduces the cooldown of the Bone skill every time you consume 100 Essence.
pull out
- Since many of your previous active abilities inflict vulnerability, Detach works well with the rest of the build to deal extra critical hit damage to vulnerable enemies.
Ossification Essence
- Our key passive skill for this build is Bone Essence, which deals bonus damage for every point of Essence you hold over 50.
How to level up your Necromancer in Season 5
While you’ll find yourself immediately wanting to dive into the new seasonal content and follow the storyline to unlock the Hell Horde, it’s best to level up your Necromancer in Helltides. They are much more efficient.
A Hellwave lasts 55 minutes and allows you to level up from level 1 to level 20. But between Hell Tides, Unwrapped Gifts of Torment, and the Whispering Tree, you’ll be reaching level 100 in a matter of days!
Playing as a Necromancer isn’t for everyone, as minions allow for a more passive playstyle, but it’s a powerful class with great potential. Hopefully this bone spear version will serve you well in your sanctuary!
