If you’ve been on social media for the past few years and are into video games, chances are you’ve seen or heard about Squirrel holding a gun. It’s a game where you play as a squirrel with a gun, and it’s just announced a release date for the console version, alongside a PC version that’s locked in next week.
In fact, we covered Squirrel with a Gun when it was just a short clip of a squirrel shooting a gun in a non-environmental context in early game development, and everyone was saying ‘phwoar, this looks like a fun game’ . Now it’s one of those games, and it’s coming soon, although whether it has the depth or staying power of a game like Goat Simulator remains to be seen.

Regardless, the game has a PC release date of August 29th and now has a proper console version, thanks to developer Dee Dee Creations and publisher Maximum Entertainment. As seen in the latest trailer below, it’s coming to Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on October 15th this year.
This will also hopefully help you understand what you’re actually going to do in Squirrel with a Gun, other than “just be a squirrel with a gun”, although obviously that’s only part of it. It would be weird if you sold a game that featured a squirrel holding a gun and then within two minutes of playing it turned into something like Hotline 2. That particular person may also get you into legal trouble.

Honestly, after watching it and hearing director Dan DeEntremont further explain its practical use in what he described as a “sandbox shooter and puzzle platformer,” I got strong Goat Simulator vibes from it. The platforming looks a little different, especially in how you use your guns, but it’s all sandbox. Run around town with little to do and choose whether to help or annoy (probably both) a group of thinkers. You’re Just a Silent Animal is very Pilgo, I mean, that’s kind of a compliment to people who love Goat Simulator.
