Uber has signed up another robo-taxi company to offer driverless rides within its app. Starting sometime next year, for “eligible” rides, Uber will give you the option to travel in one of Cruise’s self-driving vehicles. The two companies announced a “multi-year strategic partnership” on Thursday.
Cruise halted its robo-taxi service in October after an incident in which a Cruise vehicle dragged a pedestrian. The company recently brought self-driving cars with safety drivers back on the road. Cruise spokesperson Tiffany Testo said edge The partnership with Uber will kick off once Cruise resumes its driverless ride-hailing service.
In the press release, Uber and Cruise didn’t reveal which cities the service might be available in, but Testo said users can “expect” the service to launch in one of the cities it’s conducting surveillance testing: Phoenix, Dallas and Houston.
