Now that I’ve got the joke out of my system, here’s an unusual game: The folks at Outlier have announced a new game based on the cult classic film Mars Attacks.
Hearing this, you might imagine a variety of genres: maybe a shooter where you fight strange comedic Martians? Or maybe something like Destroy All Humanity , which itself draws inspiration from Mars Attacks ? No, Outlier opted for something a little weirder and crazier: a theme park management game.
“Mars Attracts is a theme park management game set on Mars,” the official synopsis reads. “Play as a cunning Martian from the classic cult universe Mars Attacks™, build your amusement park empire, kidnap humans throughout history, and Showcase it. Study humans in their natural habitat or subject them to any twisted experiment you can imagine!
The game’s official Steam page talks about being able to kidnap humans from multiple historical periods, such as ancient Rome and the Wild West.
The game will be launched in early access next year, and the team promises that “the early access version contains many hours of content and all the basic systems of the game, including construction, financial and employee management, human abductions, rides and amenities, guest happiness, multiple maps etc.
It’s a pretty weird premise, but honestly… I’m kind of okay with it. Roll on to 2025.
