Japanese screen legend and FX hitmaker’s victory lap general Star Hiroyuki Sanada continues. Poland’s groundbreaking EnergaCamerimage international film festival, which focuses most on excellence in cinematography, said on Thursday that Sanada will receive the award for best TV series performance at its upcoming 32nd event in Toruń.
Sanada’s win will be the first time the festival has awarded an award to an actor for his or her work on the small screen, another expansion of the prestigious festival’s scope.
Like Lord Toranaga, whom he plays on the hit FX show, Sanda is currently in active campaign mode general Get ready for the upcoming 2024 Emmy Awards with more categories than any other TV series. Sanada was personally nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series and served as a producer on the series when it competed in the Outstanding Television Drama Series competition.
But at the same time generalThe runaway success of the show – which was recently renewed for two more seasons – has brought new global recognition to Sanada, who has been a domestic screen icon in Japan for decades. The actor starred in his first film at the age of five and has since appeared in more than 50 Japanese films, including Yoji Yamada’s 2002 Oscar-nominated Twilight Warrior. Sanada, a rare breed among Japanese stars of his generation, had also reached the highest echelons of Hollywood years ago. He was recently spotted in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), with Keanu Reeves and Donnie Yen, and Shinkansen (2022), starring opposite Brad Pitt. Other American film credits include the last samurai (2003), Wolverine (2013), 47 Ronin (2013), Avengers: Endgame (2019), little soldier (2015) and Mortal Kombat (2021).

Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett will serve as jury president for this year’s EnergaCAMERIMAGE main competition unit. The festival takes place from November 16th to 23rd in Torun, Poland.
