The revamped Berlin International Film Festival continues to take shape, with new festival director Tricia Tuttle unveiling a new four-person selection committee on Thursday and expanding the festival’s network of advisors and representatives.
The new selection committee is composed of industry veterans, including festival planner and producer Mathilde Henrot; film critic and programmer Jessica Kiang; festival and cultural consultant Jacqueline Nsiah; and former Jerusalem Film Festival artistic director Elad Sa Elad Samorzik.
Together with Michael Stütz and Jacqueline Lyanga, they were appointed as new co-directors of the film program in June ahead of the Berlinale’s 75th anniversary next year. The committee will work with Tuttle to select films for Competition, Berlinale Special and New Perspectives.
To expand its expertise, Berlinale has also hired several consultants, including Jin Park for genre; Rowan Woods for TV and series programming; Ana David, Kate Taylor, Rabih El-Khoury and Toby Ashraf for programming. General Preselection; and Jenni Zylka heads the German Film Programme, with a special focus on new German talent and film schools. Ashraf brings expertise in German and LGBTQIA+ programming. El-Khoury brings years of experience curating Arab films.
Tuttle also appointed international representatives to source films and serve as ambassadors for various regions, including Latin America, South Asia, the United States and East Asia.
Tuttle, the former director of the London Film Festival, succeeds Berlin Film Festival co-directors Carlo Chatrian and Mariëtte Rissenbeek, and will take place from February 13 to 23 next year. began her reign at the film festival.
