While the disastrous Borderlands movie didn’t deliver the marketing hit 2K undoubtedly hoped for, they announced Borderlands 4 at last night’s Gamescom opening night.
The sequel to Borderlands 3 is expected to be released in 2025, and a brief trailer has been released. We see Lilith’s fire eagle symbol appear in space, which she left behind on Elpis, and then the moon appears and crashes into what looks like some kind of giant camouflage system hiding a new planet. The classic Borderlands spirit mask crashes on a new loot-filled playground and is picked up by a metal hand. Presumably this will be the new villain.
“In the next installment of the ultimate looter shooter, players will take on the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they fight their way through hordes of enemies to find new treasures and plunder on a brand new planet,” the official synopsis reads.
“There’s a lot that the Gearbox team and I have wanted to do in Borderlands since we first introduced the looter-shooter genre to the world with our original game,” said Randy Pitchford. “Everyone at Gearbox has big ambitions for Borderlands 4 and are working hard to make everything we love about Borderlands 4 better than ever, while also Take your game to the next level in exciting new directions.
