“Don’t kill unless you absolutely have to,” a rookie police officer is told on his first day on the job greedy person. Soon after, he accidentally does so, setting off a deadly chain of events that brings an impressive body count to this darkly comic thriller. Unfortunately, the more characters are killed off, the more tiresome the whole thing becomes, and the result is that, despite an impressive cast, the film feels like a Coen Brothers rip-off.
The story takes place in an island town rather than the snowy Midwest, Fa GeStories like this feature a wide variety of characters, nearly all of whom are shown to be either gleefully amoral or downright stupid. When the aforementioned cop Will (Himesh Patel) responds to an emergency call, he nearly shoots a woman (Tracy Lords, just so you know) going about her business in the kitchen. No disrespect to the movie), and this intricate plot begins. She became hysterical and attacked him, eventually dying in the ensuing melee.

Will’s partner Terry (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) convinces him to cover his tracks and blame the killings on the burglars – especially after they discovered $1 million in cash in the house and decided to keep it. It later emerged that the woman’s husband, a wealthy shrimp merchant (Tim Blake Nelson), had hired a hitman to murder his wife so that he would be free to marry his lover ( Nina Arianda). Naturally, he suspected that he had been betrayed.
Eventually, it seems like everyone on the island is caught up in the conspiracy, including a dastardly masseuse (Simon Rex, red rocket) whose services include sexual services; Will’s pregnant wife (Lily Collins, reunited with her) yesterday co-star Patel), who became deeply suspicious of Terry after he “accidentally” ran over her beloved dog; other The hired killer “The Irishman” (Jim Gaffigan, trying but failing to sound menacing) advertises his services on tear-out flyers and promises to be “the last handyman you’ll ever need”; There’s also the no-nonsense police chief (played by Uzo Aduba), who is basically Frances McDormand’s Maggie Gunderson in this movie.
Screenwriter Mike Vukadinovich (Jim Carrey Showtime series) joke, Re-memorize) strives to create a darkly comedic atmosphere, sometimes succeeding, as The Irishman said of his profession, “Even the most unpleasant jobs can be done ethically.” But often, you feel to the tension in the film’s clumsy attempt to blend brutal violence with deadpan humor – an example of which is the fact that the title is only shown on screen for just over 20 minutes.
Director Potsy Ponciroli showed real talent with his critically acclaimed Western old henrybut he’s not quite up to the task. The film lacks the cheeky stylization necessary to allow for escalating absurdity (by the time the story ends, there are almost no survivors, which seems to be a real deterrent to the island’s tourism industry) and too much unnecessary subplot.
Despite the hard work of its impressive gaming team, greedy person failed to realize its lofty ambitions. It lives up to its title, greedily trying to have its comedy cake and eat its violence too.
