As promised, Blizzard is bringing several games to Gamescom 2024 to celebrate the show and give us new highlights. Now that the studio is part of the Microsoft family, Blizzard’s games occupy the awkward position of being able to stand on their own but also needing to bolster the Xbox lineup.
Game industry politics aside, what the studio brought to the table today is certainly worth paying attention to, especially when it comes to Diablo 4.

The focus, of course, is Diablo 4’s first expansion, Hateship. Hateship was officially unveiled at the Summer Game Festival in June. We watched its opening animation and learned about its October 8th release date. Since then, Blizzard has revealed more and more expansions, including new Psychic classes.
During Opening Night Live, a new trailer for the expansion showed plenty of pain and horror. There’s obviously a new class to look forward to, and there’s a host of new mercenary companions to keep you company, and they all look interesting; butchers, shield bearers, nomadic woodland archers and imp-like children are just a few of the mix.
Game Director Brent Gibson was also in attendance to discuss Mercenaries and the new game mode. Fans can look forward to a new multi-level dungeon that puts you in control of your own challenges and rewards, as well as a new cooperative PvP dungeon that offers multiplayer puzzle and mechanic challenges. More content about Hateboat will also be available during Gamescom.
“Diablo 4” is currently in its fifth season. Hell Tribe’s season will be slightly shorter than previous seasons so that Season 6 can begin with the release of Vessels of Hate. Season 5 has been well-received so far, and Blizzard continues to build on it with new patches to continue improving the core gameplay of Diablo 4.
