Earlier this month, Amazon announced it had ordered an animated series based on the short video games, e.g. Caving and Mega Man, called secret level. Now we’ve got our first look at the trailer for the series, and it does look like there’s going to be a series based on armored coreFromSoftware’s mecha game stars none other than Keanu Reeves.
secret levelSet to be released on December 10, it is produced by Tim Miller and CGI studio Blur Studio, who were behind the first film dead Pool Movies and Amazon’s Early Works Love, Death and Robots Science fiction anthology. FromSoftware confirms that this is a armored core story:
Now there are two reasons for fans to be excited. First off, Levi’s is awesome, besides starring in timeless classics like this The Hack, John Wickand Breaking pointalso gave an incredible performance as Johnny Silverhand in “Johnny Silverhand” Cyberpunk 2077showing that you can bring A-list Hollywood talent to a blockbuster video game in a way that feels classy and profitable, rather than as a cheap cash-in (Idris Elba said in the game’s phantom freedom expanded last year).
But second, armored core is a beloved but relatively unknown video game IP that is available for Amazon Prime adaptation. The series is known for its tense mecha combat, brutal post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting, and effective yet deadly serious writing and storytelling. And of course its red robot eyes, which you can see in the trailer.
The pilots of these mechas are usually drugged and spliced together with all kinds of weird body horror internet crap, and tasked with averting their existential crises by blowing things up with giant guns. Reeves seems perfect for the role.
last year’s Armored Core VI: Rubicon Fire shows those strengths and does a great job, but isn’t quite the type of trans-media guest appearance phenomenon you’d expect, even one as relatively minor as one represented in an anthology series. Other games from FromSoftware include dark souls, bloodborneand super sellers ring of fire All appear to be more likely candidates.
What armored core What they lack in fans, they make up for in die-hard loyalty. If you doubt this, consider Five and a half hours of YouTube commentary exist Armored Core VI‘s story has over a million views. I’m assuming it’s secret level. armored core Entries will be shorter, but not too many.
