Produced by Bangkok-based popular studio GDH, How to make millions before grandma dies The show struck a chord with its irreverent story of a scheming young man who quits his job to care for his dying grandmother in hopes of inheriting her fortune. The film grossed US$34 million at the theater box office in Southeast Asia and Australia/New Zealand, becoming the highest-grossing Thai film ever in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Myanmar, Australia and New Zealand.
Producers revealed on Monday that the film has been scheduled to release in North America (September 13, via Well Go USA), China (August 23, Teamer Media), South Korea (October, NK Contents), the United Kingdom and Ireland (December released in March). International sales are handled by Nelson Mok of Mokster Films.
“It’s very heartening to see distributors eager to bring this film to audiences, even though Southeast Asian films have yet to be commercially proven in some of those regions,” Mok said. “Obviously, this story touched them deeply.”
How to make millions before grandma dies This is the directorial debut of filmmaker Pat Burnetti, who also co-wrote the screenplay. The film stars pop singer and actor Putthipong Assaratanakul (aka Billkin) and 78-year-old actress Usha Seamkhum in her first film role.
