It’s hometown time on The Bachelorette, also known as the time when kisses are weirdly staged in front of people’s family and friends, and a lot about when the person you love might be engaged to someone you just met.
For Jenn, she went on a hometown date with four men, only one of whom seemed absolutely certain that Jenn was the one for him.
But we still have two weeks left, so we have to live with these hometowns. Let’s jump in!
Devin was first on the show, and it was nice to have him go, so by the end of the episode you’d forget that because it was clear he was going to stick around until the end of the season.
Devin likes Jen. No, sorry, Devon loves Jen, at this point it’s just a matter of when he says it versus if he feels it.
No one else can be contacted.
Houston looked great from the park, where Jenn and Devin ran while some of his “closest” friends followed.
Devon seems to be a kind man beneath some of the dramatic exterior, I want to incorporate your girl into your activities but if a guy asked me to run a mile the first time I met his friend and If you sweat, some problems may arise.
Jenn loved it, though, and she and Devin did their thing: flirting, deep conversations, and casual intimacy. If I didn’t know they were on a reality TV dating show, I would have assumed they had been dating for years.
Devin’s family is very sweet, especially his mom, Jennifer, whom Devin clearly adores. Again, there’s no problem here since everyone knows Devin likes Jen.
If anything, they’re trying to make Devon seem a little unsure as he talks about his family being unlucky in love and wanting to change that, but that’s just a smokescreen to try and dig out something that isn’t rainbows and butterflies something.
Jenn started the obligatory round of questions: Why Devin? What makes him special?
She passed the exam with flying colors. Then it was time for Devon to discuss the situation with his best mom, and she basically said, 100% of the footage you don’t take is lost.
Because Devin cherished his mother so much, he told Jenny he loved her on the doorstep of his mother’s house. No fireworks, it’s a super cold confession of love, but also very German.
Jenn didn’t say anything back, and I can’t entirely blame her since she had three other hometowns to travel through. Devin took it all in stride because he at least revealed himself in a way that no one else had.
With things down in Texas, it’s time to head back home to Connecticut with Jeremy, who is inexplicably still there.
I wanted some confidence from Jeremy, because how he left his date thinking their relationship was close to someone else is a mystery that will never be solved.
Jenn and Jeremy went to a weird but charming grocery store called Stew Leonard’s, and my friend who lives in the area said it was a real place and she would bring me something from there the next time she went.
Small victories, people.
If Devon and Jenn are defined by their casual intimacy, then Jenn and Jeremy are defined by laughter. The two laugh all the time when they are together, cute and funny, but life is not always full of laughter!
Sometimes things get serious, but no animatronic cow makes it all better!
Jenny meets with Jeremy’s family, and it’s clear early on that they’re not interested in the whole thing. It’s like they’ve been watching the show with the rest of us.
Jenn and Jeremy have barely interacted, let alone shared their feelings, so she’s hoping this visit will spark some spark in Jeremy and get him to open up. But his family, especially his mother Karen, were very skeptical and the atmosphere was not good.
They sat on a strategically placed bench outside the house before Jane left. She wonders if he’s ready to get engaged, but apparently he’s not ready to propose.
He’s obviously not sure Jenn is the one yet, so how can he even consider marrying this girl?
Jeremy says he’s in love with her, which is something you’ll hear repeatedly when watching dating shows, and Jen thinks that’s the truth.
Jeremy shouldn’t be around for too long to watch the show, but maybe there will be another Karen.
Next up was sunny San Diego, and Jonathan was there too, ready to show Jenn around. I’m kidding. He wanted to play lacrosse again because he was starting to feel like it was the only thing they had in common.
Another date that came with running and sweating, but no one was there, so that was a plus.
Just like Jeremy, Jen wants Jonathan to let his guard down and let her know how he feels, and I get it. But at the same time, she was dating three other men, and it’s okay to keep some things private when there’s a good chance you’ll embarrass yourself on national television.
Jonathan’s brother and his wife had a speedrunning relationship in real life, but even the speedrunning guy felt like Jonathan might be getting hurt in all this.
It’s great when family members are sweet and incredibly awkward when they’re rude, but the reality is they’ve just met these people and they know nothing about their relationship. Acting like they’re overly excited about the whole process is questionable.
However, Lisa’s mom thinks that’s the case for Jonathan and urges Jonathan to tell Jenn that he’s in love with her. So, now we have a full confession of love and two falls to keep score at home.
Finally it was Tacoma, Washington, and instead of enjoying some brief alone time somewhere in the city, Marcus and Jenn went straight to his friend’s place.
Marcus has been the front runner from the beginning and Jenn has been very connected to him, but as the weeks have gone by I’ve started to see less and less of a connection.
It’s like that friend who’s dating someone and they really like them and you’re excited for them, but when you meet them the math stops being math.
Where is the spark? Where is the chemistry? I’m afraid I haven’t seen it recently compared to others.
Marcus has no shade, but their vibe and energy don’t always seem to line up. But Jen liked him, so we moved.
Marcus’ sister Gabriella looked adorable, and her crying with Jenn was easily the most emotional moment of the episode, which is surprising because hometown can be tense.
It’s interesting to hear Marcus outright say that he’s not in love with Jenn yet and is very sorry about it.
What does it mean that Bachelor mode as a concept is so crazy because you feel bad because you’re not completely in love with the guy you’ve been dating with other crazy guys for the past few weeks?
But no matter what, Gabriella doesn’t want Marcus to get hurt, but she does tell him to try harder! Two hours of topics.
So, Marcus tells Jenn in the rain that he’s in love with her, we’re wrapping up hometown, everyone is on the road to love, Devin is already there, and Jenn has to snipe someone before the finish line.
It was awkward to have these guys meet up in a community near Chile to report on the situation and talk about their family time, and Marcus made it worse and he was really fighting his uncomfortable feelings.
He felt like he was far behind, and it didn’t sound like he believed Jenn was the one for him. He also realized there were only four people left, so he needed to make sure or walk.
By the time the rose ceremony took place and everyone was feeling confident except Marcus, it was clear that Jeremy was going to be the odd one out. He was more shocking.
I’m not against Jeremy, but I’m not sure how he didn’t realize that he was actually so far behind. But alas, it was time for him to go, and he handled it gracefully.
Now that Devin, Jonathan, and Marcus are all gone, Jenn drops a bomb on Marcus, which shocks me because my gut has been saying for the past few weeks that Devin is her man!
We’re also getting a double feature on Men Tell All next week, which means we’ll get to see what mantras Sam M. pulls out of his latest self-help book that will blow our minds.
The season is almost over, folks! Let me know in the comments if you think it made it through the night and into the finale!
You can watch The Bachelorette every Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
