Acolyte debuted on Disney+ earlier this year to impressive streaming numbers. Although the first season had an open-ended ending, Disney+ has reportedly canceled Acolyte and the Star Wars series will not continue.
Via Deadline , the decision to end the series comes just over a month after The Acolyte ended its first season. The show is the first live-action Star Wars project to be set during the High Republic, starring Amandla Stenberg as twin sisters Osha and Mae.
While The Acolyte was clearly a victim of audience review bombing, that wasn’t the final outcome of the series. The show premiered in June with two episodes and had 4.8 million viewers on its first day, making it the most-watched series premiere on Disney+ this year. In its first week, viewership climbed to 11.1 million. However, “The Acolyte”‘s momentum evaporated after its third episode, falling out of the top 10 on streaming charts. The season finale returned to the top 10 with 335 million minutes watched, which may have been the lowest ever for a Star Wars finale.
Series creator Leslie Headland has shared some of her thoughts on The Acolyte Season 2. Revealed.
