There hasn’t been a Star Wars movie in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, but The Mandalorian and Grogu look set to be the first in the series to return to the big screen. While some familiar faces from The Mandalorian are likely to return for the film, there’s one actor we can rule out: Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett.
Over the weekend, Morrison appeared at FanExpo Chicago via ScreenRant and confirmed that he will not be reprising his roles in The Mandalorian and Grogu. In fact, it sounds like Morrison hasn’t been approached to return to the character in any capacity.
“To be honest, I’m still waiting for the call,” Morrison said. “I think we’re just on hold for a while. Maybe we’ll drop it later.” It’s also possible that this is misleading, given the secrecy surrounding Star Wars. But he seemed sincere.
Morrison reprized his role as Boba Fett in The Mandalorian season 2, earning critical acclaim for his performance as the aging bounty hunter. However, the spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett was not as popular as The Mandalorian. The show appears to be finished after one season, and Lucasfilm has yet to reveal plans for Boba Fett’s further adventures.
Arguably, The Book of Boba Fett represents the end of Boba’s story, as he claims his underworld throne and achieves a degree of redemption by protecting the people of Tatooine from the criminal syndicate. But it’s also possible he could appear in Dave Filoni’s untitled Star Wars movie, which would tie into some lingering threads from The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
“The Mandalorian and Grogu” will be released on May 22, 2026.
