It turns out that some Helldiver 2 players cheated to help complete the latest major order, and ended up getting their, uh, pet fish killed.
Helldivers 2 isn’t the hardest game in the world, but it’s not without its good challenges either. Even so, as with any online game, some people just want to circumvent the challenge entirely, and as shared on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, an in-game message from Arrowhead points to the presence of some cheaters, though this was in -The world remains the same. “The Super Earth High Command discovered a large number of counterfeit samples in the delivery of the last major order,” the message read.
[Major Order Update] Not gonna lie, it was fun.

“As is customary, all Helldivers who performed their duties honorably were awarded medals, and those who submitted false samples had their pet fish summarily executed. Labs across super-Earth space are trying to filter out false samples, but the expected consequences , scientific progress against the spread of darkness has been significantly reduced, and worlds approaching darkness have begun relocation protocols.

This particular command, which was removed a few days ago, gave players four days to “obtain terminal research samples so our scientists can investigate the Gloom.” Players must collectively collect tens of millions of samples across multiple planets, which many find to be a daunting task, especially given how frustrated the community has been with the game’s latest update. However, the fact that this order was almost completely filled within a few hours suggests that at least some players are not playing fair.
Hopefully Arrowhead will have better control over cheaters, because even though the game isn’t where many would like it to be right now, it just ruins the fun for everyone.
