Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive game that received a ton of free content upon launch, but the developer’s executive is worried it’ll be too short.
Anyone who’s played Baldur’s Gate 3 will quickly tell you that it’s a powerful game. I often see posts going viral about obscure scenes from players who have put hundreds of hours into the game and say they’ve never seen anything like it in their entire time playing. A year after its full release, Larian Studios continues to add content, even if they don’t always add it massively. However, despite the game’s massive launch without all these updates, prior to launch, Larian CEO and Game Director Swen Vincke worried that the game would end up being too short.
In a recent video interview with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Vink explained that they planned to make the game even bigger than it is now, but had to scale it down. “This is really a random tidbit, but Moonrise Tower used to be two towers. Now, we only have one tower,” Vink explained. “For a long time there were actually the ruins of the second tower, and then we demolished that as well. So there was only one tower, but originally we planned to have two towers. The reason we demolished the extra tower was purely production-wise, The game got too big, so we had to cut it out.

Vincke laughed and admitted that Baldur’s Gate 3 ended up being “a really big game,” but he also admitted that more locations would eventually be axed. “You’ll be surprised to know that we actually plan to make more areas. I was initially worried that the game would be too short, but I’ve been notoriously bad at judging game length.”
While all of the planned content was never made, it also never will be as the developers are moving on from the series to new content, having recently held a summit to start figuring out what it would look like.
