Kamala Harris and Tim Walz posted a video on YouTube on Thursday talking about food, music and defeating the convicted felon if they win the election in November. Criminal Donald Trump, their hope for America’s future. But parts of Harris and Walz’s conversation were pointed out by the internet’s weirdest Trump supporters as racist against white people. Specifically, right-wingers were upset that Walz joked that he couldn’t stand too much spicy food.
The full 10-minute YouTube video was made into a shorter clip about tacos on X that seemed innocuous enough.
Waltz: I have white tortillas and…
HARRIS: What do you mean mayonnaise and tuna? What’s your job?
Walz: Pretty much ground beef and cheese and…
HARRIS: That’s okay. Did you put any flavor in it?
WALZ: Well, no.
HARRIS: Oh.
WALZ: That’s the thing. No, they said to be careful and let her know this, black pepper is the top spice in Minnesota.
Look, I’m just not a big fan of spices. pic.twitter.com/u9yadJBMh2

But if you’ve been following the Trump supporter’s complete meltdown on Friday, it wasn’t just an innocuous moment showing a man from Minnesota making fun of his intolerance to spicy food. This is something more sinister.
Far-right influencer Ben Shapiro quoted the footage on Twitter: “Look, guys, it’s funny that white people hate spice! Not racist at all! Very interesting! Shapiro continued: “(Fact check: Europeans loved spices so much that they were involved in centuries of war to control the spice trade.)“

The action was also joined by hateful anti-trans bigot Matt Walsh, who hilariously insisted this was a horrifically racist moment for the Harris campaign.
“It’s crazy that a presidential candidate can freely make some blatantly anti-white racist remarks and no one cares,” Walsh wrote on Friday. “Imagine if Donald Trump said ‘Black people Tacos are made with fried chicken and watermelon.
What’s crazy is that a presidential candidate can feel free to make some blatantly anti-white racist remarks and no one cares. Imagine if Donald Trump said “negro tacos” were made with fried chicken and watermelon. Nuclear meltdown. https://t.co/wIhu7xQ06A

Even if it’s just a white man making fun of himself and his food tolerance, people like Walsh and Shapiro are ready to yell “racist” as if it proves some great point. But it makes sense that Trump supporters would do whatever it takes to confront alleged anti-white racism. Remember when vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance (a man who has never had sex on the couch) tried to express his preference for Diet Mountain Dew at a recent rally that could get him accused of racism? It’s unclear what he meant by this.
But perhaps the most interesting twist in Friday’s “racist” cries came from the Hotdish Truthers. Because Walz says he doesn’t really use spices in his tacos, some of the silliest online sleuths have been digging up his old recipes to prove that he does use spices.
Dustin Grage describes himself on X as “minnesota republican hype man” Take issue with Walz’s turkey taco hot dish recipe. For those of you who have never lived in the upper Midwest, the term “hot dish” refers to a baked casserole that usually contains some meat, a starch like rice or pasta, some canned vegetable mixture, and something like cream . Hot dishes are not known for being spicy at all.
“Tim Walz’s turkey taco hot dish recipe. Yes, he even lied about the spices,” Gregg wrote on Friday. Recipe screenshots include things like “mild green chiles” and “chili powder,” apparently solid evidence that Walz can handle spice. In fact, those aren’t spicy, as anyone with two brain cells rubbing together can tell you.

Far-right conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich tried to make a similar point by digging up one of Walz’s 2016 recipes, insisting, “Walz was in Minnesota and people were not giving food. Lied about the seasoning. The top comment on Cernovich’s tweet made that clear: “The mild green chili and onion powder didn’t really break the spirit of his skit. “
Oh my god. I thought intuitively. Hmm, I wonder if Tim Walz is lying about people in Minnesota not seasoning their food.

This debacle isn’t just happening on social media. People at Fox News are also very upset, co-host fox and friendsWill Cain was furious that Harris had any demands on how to make gourmet tacos.
“I mean, like, she dunked on him over tacos?” Cain said. “What is she?”
But many ordinary people also chimed in, mocking the outrage in Trumpworld. Comedian Andy Richter joked about the weirdness of Bluesky’s writing, “*I,* as a white man, can make white man taco jokes. If you do, you’ll be painfully reminded You have been oppressed for nearly four weeks.
Trump supporters are now overly focused on Walz and his tacos, in part because they have no other message that resonates with voters. Trump’s agenda is built on anger and hatred, with a focus on doom and gloom at every rally and his truly bizarre press conferences. In stark contrast, Harris and Walz focused on optimism and a shared hope for the future. That may be why Harris has been surging since Joe Biden dropped out of the Democratic race, with key polls showing Harris overtaking Trump in key battleground states.
In fact, FiveThirtyEight’s polling average currently has Harris up 2.6 points nationally, and that’s ahead of next week’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago. These conventions often provide a brief boost for any given party, and that didn’t happen for Trump after the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
With just 81 days left until Election Day, no one knows who will win. But Harris and Walz are leading in most national polls, and the Trump camp is going to throw every nasty thing at the opposition in order to see the neo-fascist bastards take power again. When they argue that a white man joking about his mild tacos is “racist,” it’s clear they have no other option.
