Was this episode incredibly stupid and over the top? Yes. Is this incredibly predictable? Yes. I’m a little disappointed because in a movie called suicide squad? Yes. Does that stop this ending from being incredibly enjoyable with flashy animations, callbacks galore, and the silliest fun I’ve had in a while? Absolutely not! If you had told me last month that the ending of this anime would involve the entire squad getting magical girl-like transformations, I would have told you it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard, but I don’t necessarily think it would transcend the show to do something like things. Suicide Squad from Another World It’s an anime about stupidity. This is to make sure we have as much fun as possible with the premise so that we have gorgeous action scenes and our actors win in the end! The question is what happens next?
Peace has been restored and the princess becomes the new queen. Once the Immortal Queen is dealt with, everything should return to normal. We don’t even have time to mourn all the people who died in the violence that followed, because who cares? Of course Harley doesn’t, so why would I? That’s the attitude the show takes. If you think they’re going to comment on anything deeper, then I don’t know how you made it through this series without pulling your hair out multiple times. Not to get rewards, nor to establish a good relationship with the kingdom. The squad just wants to do their job, look cool, get a few years off their sentence, and have a nice meal. In many ways, I respect that.
Yet the question “What happens next?” has a double meaning, as the series ends on a cliffhanger. I have a feeling the Joker will play some role in the show, as he’s one of the most marketable characters in the entire DC pantheon and his whereabouts have never been technically resolved. His presence in the alternate world raises a series of questions, such as when he got here and how he managed to do it without anyone noticing when the only entrance to this world is actually in Waller’s lap. Do this under circumstances. But the logistics of it all don’t matter. What matters is that he’s here, and he’s doing what the Joker is best known for, causing chaos. I loved his speech when he talked about the undead queen and how he helped her create death and destruction. But her desire to dominate makes things boring, so he ends up not objecting to betraying her.
I’m curious as to why he doesn’t reveal himself to Harry and what his ultimate goal is for her. Harley’s character in the show is a bit of a throwback to her early days, before she left her role as the Joker. She still adores him and hopes to see him soon. Maybe this has become predictable and boring for Joker? Despite the series’ popularity, I don’t know how likely a sequel is. I still think a follow-up has a lot of potential, but considering how much they’ve been saddled with this season’s sheer obsession with anime and pop culture, I wonder how much they’ll leave in the follow-up – upwards.
