When most people think of Indiana Jones, the first image that comes to mind is of Harrison Ford wearing his iconic fedora. The hat itself became an iconic character in the series, earning it the slogan on a 1989 poster. the last crusade: “The man in the hat is back! Indy was even willing to risk his life to snatch his signature accessory and snatch it back from under a falling door in 1984. Temple of Doom.
So it’s no surprise that movie and TV memorabilia company Propstore has revealed that it has sold an Indiana Jones screen- and photo-matching fedora hat for $630,000. While Indiana Jones wore multiple fedoras throughout the five movies, this particular top hat comes from Temple of Doom.
Propstore’s backstory on the hat states that it was made by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London and designed by Johnson Temple of Doom Costume designers Anthony Powell and Joanna Johnston. Its design is slightly adjusted compared to the hat seen in the picture Lost Ark Guideaccording to the auction house, “Matched with film footage, production stills, and behind-the-scenes footage from villages Ford shot in Sri Lanka, a mine cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and river scenes shot in the United States. Created by actor Dean Ferrandini.
The auction catalog describes this in detail: “Made of mink rabbit felt, this fedora hat features a dark brown ribbon and leather sweatband, emblazoned with the name and address of the Herbert Johnson Hat Company and marked with size 7 1/4 (European sizing 59) label. There is also some makeup residue on the front of the sweatband. The style, position, and size of the markers are consistent with other known authentic examples. Temple of Doom Fedora hat.
The hat previously belonged to Ferrandini, who died last year, and the auction also includes unpublished photos of Ferrandini in an Indiana Jones costume and a letter of authenticity signed by his wife.
