Development of DLC-sized Fallout New Vegas mod Fallout New Mexico No longer on hold, a member of the team told VG247 that the project is currently “in good shape” as work on the mod has resumed.
Fallout: New Mexico has been in development since 2021, promising a Fallout adventure set five years after the events of Interplay’s original Fallout game in and around New Mexico, and incorporating a host of classics Fallout mechanics and atmosphere. Its creators now say the project is back on the road, but haven’t promised a launch date.

New Mexico PR director JK-Serling posted a brief update to the mod’s Discord server on July 10, stating that “the project is no longer on hold,” and later posted a picture of the box with the Vault-Tec logo on it. On August 8, we On the Beach (titled “A Plate of Secrets”) contacted them for more information.
“Zapshock has resumed work on Nuevo Mexico and the project is in good shape,” the modder said. “Even before it was shelved, it was in good condition.” They also confirmed that the image of the box on the beach was just a teaser, saying it was “intended to let people know in a subtle, impactful way that we are indeed working on it.” Something,” but added that “it’s not, it’s really just hype.
“We do have something coming, but we can only ask people to be patient and let the developers do the cooking,” the modder continued. “We don’t want to keep saying ‘something’s going to happen’ without having anything to show for it, we’ve learned that we are human beings with limits, we need sleep, and burnout is real.
“I think we’re overestimating in some ways how long this will all take, especially given [project lead] Since 2008, Zapshock has been the only thing really dedicated to world space, scripting, and making the engine look at least decent. patience. It would be great if people left our Discord or unsubscribed from our YouTube! We should lose this confidence in people. We hope people don’t get too hung up on it because we can’t guarantee that the project will be released, we can only do the best we can with what little support and team we have. We believe the project will be released and we don’t blame people at all if they want to wait until it is released and then support us.
JK-Serling went on to explain that having to commission and purchase new assets that weren’t in the original game “prevents us from revealing anything.
“We wanted to have truly iconic landmarks as well as new buildings and props,” they said. “This is important, I don’t think many people will find the same FO3/New Vegas property [very] Attractive, but they’re too recognizable at this point.
“We’re committed to showing something this year and revealing things we haven’t shown in years. The big reveal is the core attraction of why we’re making this, but we only get one chance to show something and we want it to be on all of our minds .
They concluded: “I’ve seen what the team has done and I think the delay was worth it. It doesn’t look like we have anything to show, but all I can say is [as] Just helping people writing or coming up with ideas, [is] You’d be surprised at what the team did in New Vegas Engine from an environmental perspective. Costumes, narrative, new assets and world space – that’s why it took us so long to show it off, and why it wasn’t an easy task considering the number of people working on it.
VG247 also reached out to a number of voice actors who had been invited to work with the mod team (or had begun doing so before the project was paused). Someone named Ally Katz told us that after the Discord server was confirmed to be out of service, they had contacted Zapshock to wish the modder the best and received a response in early July, which included instructions from the modding team. Hopefully they’ll record more voice lines at some point.
Another person named Strigoi said that they had been waiting to hear from the team about some voice lines before the project was shelved, and they have not been contacted by themselves or the modding team since then. .
“It was mostly a bunch of waiting for news and finding out things after they happened,” they said of the latter period. “I’m not stressed about it, though, and I think they’ll pull my sleeve when the time comes. It’s for recording. I know enough about the development process to know that it’s usually closer to completion.
So, that’s where this ambitious Fallout modding project currently stands, and it will be interesting to see where it goes, especially for those who were impressed by what they saw and heard in New Mexico before the hiatus explain. For now, being patient and letting modders keep working until they’re ready to show off more of what they’ve been building seems like the thing to do.
