Well, if so, then here’s good news, because Firaxis has confirmed that Civilization 7 will be dropping the 2K launcher on PC, assuming you bought a copy on Steam, and Civilization 6 has just dropped it too.
While I don’t think 2K’s launcher is the worst, even if it’s a very low bar, it’s always annoying having to log in extra stuff to play a game you don’t even want to play through the relevant service or storefront, so this one It’s no surprise that the move was met with cheers and a sigh of relief.

Firaxis confirmed in an announcement about the latest Civilization VI event on Steam: “In addition to Challenge 10, which goes live on August 14, the new update also removes the 2K launcher from Sid Meier’s Civilization VI on Steam. “Additionally, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will not use the 2K launcher on PC.
The studio also broke the news to world-conquering armies on the game’s Reddit subreddit, with a community manager revealing, “There are also plans to [the] epic [Store] in the near future”.
The top response to the latter announcement began with the words “Thank God,” and yes, that seems about right.

So, you can now play Civilization 6 to your heart’s content and finally complete your epic takeover of the world, playing as a fascist Canada determined to spread Zoroastrianism by building shrines and theater squares every two tiles in the land teachings.
