Brave Squire – one of the coolest indie games to be released this year – finally has a release date. It’s set to release on September 17, but PlayStation Plus subscribers will be happy to know that they’ll be able to download it on day one.
This was announced via the official PlayStation Twitter account, accompanied by a cute little gameplay video showcasing the game. The game will be added to the PlayStation Plus catalog of games, so even if you decide to sign up later this year, Plucky Squire should be there waiting for you.

For those of you who don’t know, Brave Squire looks to be an especially notable addition to the fantastic releases already released this year. It blends 2D and 3D gameplay into a colorful, picture-book style aesthetic that’s a joy to watch. Developer All Maybe Futures is releasing it as the first game to have Devolver Digital as publisher, and if the Devolver name isn’t a sign of recognition for an ambitious and amazing indie developer at this point, then I don’t know what to tell you. What.
September is looking pretty good, though, with games like Warhammer 40:00: Space Marine 2, Astro Bot, and Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered set to be released. But thankfully, The Brave Squire is different enough from those works to deserve some breathing room. The hope is that it will appeal to a different crowd. Something big enough for the game to be successful. Whatever PlayStation deal developers negotiate will certainly help.
