hololev’s Sen CalliopeLong known for her role as a rap and gaming streamer, she was recently warner bros. Performing new song “Go-Getters” Suicide Squad from Another Worldending. we caught up Sen Calliope racking one’s brains suicide squadher fandom, and what she’s been up to lately.
Well, I understand that you are also working with Teddy currents and millions In the song “Go-Getters”. What was it like working with both of them?
Sen Calliope: We’ve had several opportunities to collaborate together in the past, most notably on songs from our debut album, let’s end the world. timeeddyLoid is a friend of mine who DJed for me at my solo concert a few years ago, so I’m familiar with them. I was so honored to be able to get into their schedule to make this song because every song they make is great. They nailed the atmosphere we wanted. Choosing the mood and sounds that fit the animation and my voice was a long process. It has undergone many modifications. They are great professionals – in my opinion, the best professionals in Japan.
the same way Suicide Squad from Another World is a strange mix of Western anime, and as a VTuber you’ll also find yourself in the strange juncture between American and Japanese fans. How does it feel to have fans in the U.S. and Japan?
Sen Calliope: Hololive English has many fans in Japan. Whenever I speak a little bit of Japanese on stream, all the Japanese fans seem to file in and say hello, which I appreciate because they still watch despite not understanding English. From a business perspective, it’s difficult to have two distinct fan bases. There’s only so much Japanese I can speak on stream before English speakers start saying, “Hey, where’s the English?” And then I can only speak so much English, and then Brother JP goes, “Okay, I don’t understand that. This isn’t Japanese, so I gotta go.” It’s a very delicate balance to figure out. I’m grateful for all my fans around the world. I wish all my live streams had subtitles, but I don’t think our technology is mature enough yet. I think Suicide Squad from Another World Would be a great way to unite these parts of my fan base.

You mentioned before that Japanese fans are more shy than American fans. Expanding a bit, what do you think are the other bigger cultural differences between Japanese VTuber fans and American VTuber fans?
Sen Calliope:There are several. When it comes to JP VTuber fans, I think they are more passionate about watching their favorite shows, and almost exclusively their favorite shows. Often, they take time to view each stream. I do think brother JP is much shyer when it comes to speaking English or speaking a language they don’t understand. I think they’re more worried about making mistakes. But everyone is friendly, so I’m happy to hear from them, even if they speak Japanese in my chat. We are all united by our love for VTubers and anime and the culture we are a part of. These things bring us together.

I feel like we probably talked about this on another issue, but Suicide Squad from Another World is an animated adaptation of an American property. What do you think about this?
Sen Calliope: I think this is a brilliant idea because suicide squad It’s always looked like a property that could reach its full potential in animated form because there’s so much ridiculous stuff happening to these guys. I love them to death. they are crazytheir antics are crazy – especially Harley Quinn. Since the main movies, and even since 2016, the more recent Harley has been better suited to reaching her full potential in animation (if that makes sense). I almost feel inspired by anime. One interesting thing is that I had no idea this was going to be an alternate world. When I started seeing ads pop up, I was like, “I don’t know if this is going to work.” [But] The concept itself is so ridiculous that it might work. Better than making an animated version directly suicide squad. I think it’s more interesting.

Kind of like how they made it Superman Japanese comics [Superman vs. Meshi]. It’s not just the Japanese Superman Comics, this is a Superman In the manga, he travels around Japan and tastes different local delicacies.
Sen Calliope: Exactly. It’s amazing when they make changes like this, especially since it’s made in Japan. I think it’s a perfect fit.
Especially how much the Japanese love American superheroes. I think I know what you’re going to say, but who is your favorite Suicide Squad member? Be it from the upcoming manga anime or any other previous media.
Sen Calliope: I’ve talked about it many times on the air. Killer Croc isn’t in the main lineup, but I love Killer Croc. I’ve always loved Killer Croc.
I’m surprised by this answer.
Sen Calliope: Oh really? My friends from college even prefer [DC Comics] Than me. They introduced me to Washington, DC. My friend’s favorite is Killer Croc. She brainwashed me into a Killer Croc fan. I joked on air that my favorite version of Killer Croc is the one where he eats people, and everyone was like, yeah, that’s it. My next obvious example is King Shark, as he is similar to Killer Croc, but with much less intelligence. He’s just a stupid, hungry guy who’s also very violent. But, you know, you can’t control him being hungry. But after these two, I say Clayface, because he, you know, Aikman. Super handsome guy. Also a man who completely failed in the best possible way. I feel like I relate to him because I often feel like a huge failure. I feel like I see that part of me in Clayface. Here are my three answers because I try not to choose Harley or Joker, but I like them too.

Almost everyone immediately says Harley Quinn or Joker.
Sen Calliope: Everybody loves these guys. So I try to be different, but they’re also great.
Now that you’ve sung the anime’s ending theme, are there any other dream anime you’d like to collaborate with?
Sen Calliope: There certainly is. I feel like some of them – one of them in particular – if I said it, it wouldn’t happen. So I try to keep that to myself, but we’ll see if we get beyond that. [JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure]must. i love jojo That’s all. jojo Helped me get through a very difficult period in my VTuber career. I was in a very dark place when my friend introduced me jojo Big book. Reading the manga now, it’s very close to my heart. One day I want to do something with jojo Anyway, even if it has nothing to do with anime. I’m a big fan of jojoso I will hold on to this dream, because it’s good to have dreams, even if they don’t come true.
Currently, what is your favorite anime?

©Noda Satoru/Shueisha, GOLDEN KAMUY Project
Sen Calliope: This is a tough one because it loops through anime that I’ve liked recently and I have an all time favorite anime that never changes. that is Tianyuan Lagen. It changed my life forever. I own all the special Blu-ray releases of this show. I have all the character models, posters, etc. hanging everywhere. It’s a perfectly self-contained story that’s so perfect that it doesn’t need to be continued. Thanks to this anime, I will never give up no matter what I do. In addition, the animations I have watched recently include Monster No. 8 and golden divine power. I entered golden divine power I’ve been attending all these events lately and I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy a show that dives into Japanese history. But I dig it.
Considering your musical background, what music are you listening to these days?
Sen Calliope: I was going through a rough patch. After the release of my (LP) Hell SixI feel like I really can’t listen to music anymore. Whenever I listen to music, I want to turn it off. I guess I got tired of music, so I stopped listening to music for a long time. I wanted to find a way to enjoy music again. Slowly but surely, I just started listening to the subtle sounds background musiclike lo-fi music without any lyrics, adaptations of soundtracks from different video games, and more. A lot of it is still Japanese rap or alternative Japanese music that I like overseas, like “outside Japan” music. Maybe one day I’ll be able to enjoy English music again. One day. Fingers crossed.
ANN: You mentioned listening to some video game soundtracks. Do you mind if I force you? Which scores stand out to you?
Sen Calliope: A lot of it is for me background music. I listen to relaxing game music arranged by fans. like Pokémon, harvest moon, Stardew Valley, ANIMAL CROSSINGeven Yoshi’s Islandin the background. i love Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. I always listen to every song from this game in the background. at some point i will make some time revenge Because those songs will never get old to me. Many people have recommended it DMC [Devil May Cry] for me, so I thought I could take a look DMC Next.
When they say “DMC“They mean, bigger”Devil May Cry“The entire series, or they just mean a series DMC?
Sen Calliope: I think the whole series, [HoloEN] When the streamers aired the series, fans were so interested that they wanted us to play it from beginning to end. So I might check it out.
I can actually testify that the music in DMC What a great experience. Amazing ass rock.
Sen Calliope : Oh, that’s interesting. I love ass rock.
ANN: Finally, do you have anything to say about Deadbeats?
Sen Calliope: Hey, buddy! Thank you very much for reading this interview. I hope you are doing well and taking care of yourself. I feel great about this album and this year. I feel particularly good about the ending theme Suicide Squad from Another World. I’m so honored to be able to do this, but a lot of it is due to your incredible passion and love for what I do and all of your support of what I do. So, thank you all for following me and supporting me. Let’s make this year better.
