Madman Films releases trailer for upcoming coming-of-age film set in New Zealand we are in danger.
Set in New Zealand in 1954, the film follows Nellie and Daisy as they try to escape an institution for delinquent girls. When they are captured, they are moved to another facility on a remote island.
As explained, “With the addition of wealthy Lou, the duo becomes a trio, and life on the island takes shape under the command of the devout matron. The trio complain about the system, doubt the benevolence of the Bible, and… They seek refuge in their burgeoning friendship.
“It’s difficult to reform girls who don’t believe they need reforming. When experimental forms of punishment occur in the dead of night, a sense of doom sets in. Nellie and Daisy plot a rebellion, but then find themselves fighting the fear of Lou broke the rules and got into an argument.
The film is directed by Josephine Stewart-Tee Uher directorial debut. it stars James era, five songs, Natalie Morrisand Fanatic Hall.
The film has been described as “a touching story of friendship and rebellion that deftly balances youthful humor and joy.”
The film will premiere in New Zealand on August 22, 2024.
