Updated on August 11, 2024: Walmart is discounting the Halo Warthog ride to $279, which is about $100 less than the current retail price of $373. The Warthog originally launched in 2022 as a Walmart exclusive, priced at a whopping $498.
The current discounted price is more in line with other “premium” rides – however, it’s still expensive. Still, we can’t imagine this deal lasting long.
You can read our original 2022 story below. I asked my now 3.5-year-old son again if he wanted to play Halo Infinite with me. “I don’t like Halo,” he said. In other words, he doesn’t know what Halo is yet. When I showed the warthog to my wife, she told me again that our son “didn’t need that.” What a disappointment to my son, who is a huge Halo fan in the family.
The original story is as follows
I can’t believe I’m writing this, but Microsoft has released the ride-on Halo Warthog designed for kids ages three and up. The 24-volt vehicle has two seats and even has a gauss cannon in the back and is equipped with a laser tag launcher. It comes with a vest so you can chase the person wearing it. The Warthog can be purchased exclusively at Walmart for $498.
I’m not sure a three-year-old knows Halo. To investigate, I asked my 19-month-old son if he wanted to play Halo Infinite. His reaction? “Elmo.” While this isn’t a scientific study, it could be a sign that parents want the ride-on Warthog more than their kids do. The sad truth is parents won’t be able to sit behind the wheel. I’ve asked my wife if I could buy a warthog “for our son” and she unsurprisingly told me no.

Back to the warthog itself. It looks really cool and is an authentic replica of the iconic vehicle from the Halo series. It features off-road terrain wheels, operable headlights, and sound effects such as explosions and engine revs. The gauss cannon rotates and has “weapon” voice commands. There’s even a dashboard that shows the warthog’s “health.”
The warthog has a top speed of nine miles per hour, so someone wearing a laser-tagged vest can probably outrun it—unless they have tiny legs. Children’s legs are usually very small. In addition to the turret laser gun, the package also comes with a separate blaster.
It was obvious to me that this warthog was awesome. If you don’t believe me, check out the pictures below. These kids are very happy, but they may not be so happy when their parents try to squeeze themselves into the warthog and make it spin.
