Everyone’s favorite wizard Geralt of Rivia is set to appear in The Witcher 4…and it doesn’t sound like he’s going to be the main character.
When The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt first came out… about 10 years ago (gosh, I’m old), it was obvious by the end of the game that this was destined to be a grand finale. In fact, CD Projekt Red said the same thing in an interview with Polygon a few years before the game’s release, making it clear that this would be the end of Geralt’s story: “In the third game, we should end it and come to a conclusion. A lot of threads,” said CEO Marcin Iwinski. “We may even add Geralt in future games,” executive producer John Mammoth further explained.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Geralt’s voice actor Doug Cockle said in the recent Fall Damage footage (thanks PC Gamer) that The Witcher 4, or whatever it ends up being called, won’t be about the beloved character. . “The Witcher 4 has been announced. I can’t say anything about it,” Coker said. “What we do know is that Geralt will be a part of the game, we just don’t know how much, and the game won’t be focused on Geralt. So it’s not about him this time. We don’t know who it is about. I’m glad to know that, I haven’t read any of the scripts, I mean, I couldn’t tell you if that’s the case, so I’m probably lying.

This won’t come as a surprise to those who have been following all of The Witcher 4’s progress, especially the Polygon interview above, but it still gives us a clearer idea of what we can expect from the upcoming sequel. Production is expected to begin sometime this year, so at least don’t expect to play it anytime soon.
