There are many, many holiday-themed movies to choose from, but not many that specifically focus on the American Thanksgiving holiday. The perennial Thanksgiving favorite, though, is the darkly hilarious “Addams Family Values,” the second film based on the old 1960s Addams Family sitcom and the precursor to Netflix’s “Wednesday.” This fall, Addams Family Values will be available on 4K Blu-ray for the first time, 31 years after its original release in 1993. In this story, the ghostly Addams Family – Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Wednesday, Pugsley, and Grandma – welcome a new member of the family, Gomez and Morticia’s Newborn Probert. They hired a nanny named Debbie to care for Probert, but it turned out that she was a serial killer who planned to seduce, marry and then murder Uncle Fester. Part of her plan involves sending Wednesday and Pugsley to an overnight camp, where they must put on a Thanksgiving play — one worth remembering and one of the reasons why The Addams Family Values has become a cult to this day. A classic for an important reason.
Another major contributor is the way “Addams Family Values” balances its extremely dark sense of humor with its light-hearted tone – a balance many films attempt, but few truly achieve, “Addams Family Values” is one Rare example.
