Making a post-apocalyptic zombie/heist movie set in Las Vegas is boring and should be enough to land any director in jail for ten years. However, Netflix decided to give Zack Snyder another big chunk of money to develop Rebel Moon , a new sci-fi universe that has no clear purpose other than being very violent and “not a family-friendly Star Wars.” Features, as long as you’re watching the just-released director’s cut. Now, it seems the filmmakers’ luck has finally run out, as Army of the Dead is no longer releasing new movies or shows.
Snyder has been hard at work ever since his 2017 Justice League movie was trashed by Warner Bros. and turned into a Frankenstein-esque mess by Joss Whedon and the producers bigger idea and trying to have both sides: one for the big studio and one for himself. His “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” became a reality “thanks to” one of the most toxic online fan campaigns in recent memory, and it was undeniably an extraordinary attack on the theatrical shell of the film. A noteworthy transformation, transforming it into a unique sound with an ambitious vision behind it. However, this approach now feels like a one-time trick.

Via TheWrap featuring interviews with Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder about DC’s Rebel Moon , we’ve learned that Netflix has chosen to quietly withdraw from more Army of the Dead movies, and that the movie isn’t a huge disaster with critics and audiences, but just felt too bloated and expensive for the final thing other Zombie movie. Additionally, it’s filled with headache-inducing world-building and ideas that will require more funding and time to develop future movies and TV shows. You have to admit the Snyders are aiming really high, but with just about everyone in Hollywood cutting costs and trying to play it safer for a while, Netflix doesn’t see the same franchise potential in this universe. Not surprising.
There’s an interesting line in the article where Deborah Snyder points out that despite this, “Six Flags will have a themed experience this Halloween.” Honestly, that line feels like it’s on a scrap cake Cherry, this isn’t something I personally wanted to write about as I’ve always admired the filmmaker and his partners/producers for their commitment to making bold moves whenever possible, even if they don’t fail as often as they do, but you have to Learn to recognize when to let go of a failing idea and refocus on something else.
At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if old friend and past writing partner James Gunn asks Zack to produce something Things are much better for the DCU.
