You should not mess with destiny. We’ve all heard it.
Oh, but it’s so tempting when a handsome stranger shows up in your dreams, and he’s more attractive than any man in real life.
“My Dreams About You” explores the plight of Grace (Skylar Samuel) when she dreams about a handsome stranger, only to discover that her dream weaver made a mistake and they shouldn’t be in the dream world meet in.
Dreams are often our inner desires or fantasies, which explains why Grace (Skyler Samuels) dreams about Michael (Kapil Talwalkar).
He was warm-hearted and concerned about her needs. He loves cheeseburgers just like hers, and he can dance the sexy tango. What is not to love?
According to Dream Central, the problem arises because dreams are supposed to be based on real memories and not include new people or places.
Michael and Grace meet in a dream when their new employee Allura (Lee Cecilia) mixes up their memory tapes.
Harvey (David Rosser) and Allura try to convince Grace that unless she erases her memory of Michael, her life could change dramatically.
Nonetheless, now that she knew he was not a figment of her imagination, she decided to meet him.
While Skyler Samuels is a veteran of Hallmark movies, this is Kapil Talwalkar’s first Hallmark film appearance .
In fact, he’s better known for his musical comedy. Although this is a romantic comedy with some emotional depth, Hallmark used his musical talents to have Michael sing and play guitar on screen.
The two actors have crazy chemistry and act like they’ve known each other for years. They have a lot in common, from food tastes to career choices.
As a writer, I understand their frustration as family members refer to their passion as a “hobby” that doesn’t bring in real money.
Kapil Talwalkar does a great job as Michael and Skyler Samuels as Grace is a hit in this movie.
We are all like her, working temporary jobs while waiting for our dream job.
It’s frustrating to receive rejection letters and hear many people asking for a more practical backup plan.
It makes perfect sense for Grace to want to escape into her dream world and think Michael is rescuing her from boredom.
When they meet, Grace discovers that Michael is in a similar situation to her, and they embark on an adventure that will inspire their careers.
Supporting characters Alura (Cecelia Lee) and Harvey (David Rosser) add comic relief to the film.
While Harvey struggles to abide by the Dream Council’s rules and takes the lead in finding Grace and preventing her from reconnecting with Michael, Allura adds humor through her fascination with the real world and relationships.
Most of the supporting characters in “Hallmark” don’t have much of a point of view, but when Allura observes Michael and Grace from a distance, she’s confused about what’s right.
While she always wants to advance on the Dream Council, other things, like true love and tasting good old-fashioned American apple pie, become more important.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but I will joke that you will feel like you are experiencing the best attraction of the summer.
As a Michigan girl, I loved that the first half of the movie takes place in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids.
There are always a lot of festivals going on in Michigan, so I felt right at home while Michael and Grace explored the local street markets.
As they experience the adventure, they’ll see attractions like the largest spider, as well as more simple summer attractions like sharing ice cream and listening to music.
You’ll feel like you’re transported back to summer nights when date nights were all about falling in love.
Kevin Fehr directed “Dream of Mine.” Fehr has directed a number of Hallmark films, most recently “Family Season.”
Working with different actors allows the director to develop new relationships and see how they work together.
One thing we love about My Dream is that it takes you to every town on your adventure.
There are real train station platforms, old-fashioned restaurants and street markets that make each place unique.
“Dreams About You” differs from other Hallmark movies because the main obstacle between them is that they’re not supposed to meet in this timeline.
If you’ve ever watched a time travel show like Timeless or All the Way Home, you know that your decisions can change your destiny.
Although Michael doesn’t remember Grace from the dream, they form an immediate connection, and Grace hopes their connection is strong enough to survive the Dream Council’s interference.
One thing to remember – fate always wins. You have to open yourself up to the possibilities and ask for some help.
So far, the characters in Hallmark’s Summer Nights movies have been dissatisfied with their complacent lives and need someone to push them to follow their dreams.
We’re all familiar with this theme, so it’s fun to see these characters go on adventures, let loose, and laugh out loud.
This movie tells many examples of summer romance and how love wins. This is a perfect movie to enjoy with ice cream or a frozen drink.
Watch “My Dreams with You” to see if Grace and Michael’s connection can withstand the rules of fate. If you loved the movie as much as we did, please share your thoughts below or on social media.
My Dream airs Saturday, August 10 at 8/7c.
