At last night’s D23 panel, Disney revealed the first look from the live-action remake of “Stitch.” In CG, he does look like a one-to-one translation of the character, and it also helps that he’s voiced by original actor Chris Sanders. Considering that Disney’s VFX-heavy movies can sometimes be a nightmare, this is a solid effort that makes you wonder what other CG characters like Jumbaa and Pleakley would look like every time we see them.
If you haven’t seen the original 2005 movie, Lilo & Stitch It focuses on a young Hawaiian girl (played in real life by Maia Kealoha) who is still reeling from the death of her parents and the possibility that her sister Nami (Sydney Agudong) has been taken away from her. Lilo wants a friend, which manifests itself in the form of Stitch, a recently created alien on the run from the space police. Lilo thought he was a bit of a strange dog, so he adopted him, and the two began their adventures. The first movie was adorable and led to a franchise that included a direct-to-DVD sequel, a spinoff with a catchy theme song, and an unforgettable browser game. (A few more appear in kingdom hearts game.
If you like what you see, the good news is: Lilo & Stitch The remake will be officially released in summer 2025.
