Due to a new feature, “blue checks” may no longer dominate reply threads on X.
Over the past few years, there’s been a lot of criticism about how Elon Musk is changing blue checks. Blue checkmarks were previously used to verify the authenticity of well-known users when the platform was called Twitter. Under Musk’s leadership, X is now issuing blue checks to anyone who pays the $8 monthly fee for X Premium. Best of all, blue check subscribers are priority in the mentions of the post.

The last two response sorting options are very simple. “Latest” displays replies in chronological order from newest to oldest. “Most Liked” displays the most liked replies first. The Blue Checking Account appears to completely lose any advantages offered by a paid subscription when either of these two menu options are selected.
It’s unclear how X determines how to rank posts by the “most relevant” option. However, it appears to be the same as the previous preset sorting method. In this view, the blue check still seems to take precedence.
Any user can change the reply sorting options for any post they view, not just their own.
It will be interesting to see if these new options are popular with the X user base. If many X users prefer to view replies via favorites or recent replies, it seems likely that X Premium subscription rates will take a hit as one of the paid subscription benefits for blue check users loses some of its power.
