As part of Take-Two’s latest earnings briefing, the company once again confirmed that Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI, one of the most anticipated games of the next few years, is still on track for a fall 2025 release.
Basically every Rockstar Games game over the past decade has been delayed beyond its originally announced date, but so far, GTA VI hasn’t been delayed (at least not in terms of a publicly announced date). There has been speculation that GTA VI may be delayed, in part due to Rockstar’s return-to-office policy, but the game is still progressing as normal. The ongoing video game actor strike is due to concerns about artificial intelligence, but will not affect GTA VI.
Also in Take-Two’s financial report, the company confirmed that “GTA V” has sold “more than” 200 million copies, the same number the company disclosed three months ago. This could be a sign that the game’s sales are finally slowing down. Take-Two also stated that the overall global sales of the “GTA” series have reached 430 million copies, compared with 425 million copies three months ago.
In addition, Take-Two stated that it expects GTA Online’s revenue to decline in the future. Again, this may speak to the maturity of the product. Even the most popular games eventually slow down, and GTA V and GTA Online are no exception.
One analyst says GTA V is the most important video game release ever. “There’s probably never been a more important launch in the industry, so there’s no pressure,” Circana’s Mat Piscatella said.
However, not all competing companies are afraid of GTA VI. Ubisoft said it welcomed the release of “GTA VI” because large-scale games like this can help boost sales in the entire video game industry.
