The Cheapest Kindle Deals for August 2024

When looking for a device to read e-books, you have several options. You can always buy a tablet or use your phone, but these devices are multipurpose and can be used for many things, like surfing the web or doomscrolling on the X. – Reader is niche but designed to house all your books in a limited-featured virtual library.

Amazon is one of the pioneers of e-readers and has dominated the space for years with its ever-expanding Kindle lineup, which is made up of a variety of unique models, each with their own pros and cons. Most of the device functions as a simple e-book reader; however, with Kindle Scribe, Amazon seems to be moving beyond books and into writing—which will make future Kindles function more like paper.

Below, we’ve listed every model currently available. Sometimes there are no deals on one or even any product, but in that case we list the latest sales price. Keep in mind that Amazon also offers 20% off all Kindles when you trade in select devices, so even if there aren’t any models on sale, there are still other ways to save money.

In case you missed it, Amazon is releasing a new entry-level Kindle in 2022, designed to replace the 2019 model. The latest Kindle starts at $99.99, bringing Amazon’s basic e-reader more in line with the latest Kindle Paperwhite and offering a host of quality-of-life improvements in the process. The 2022 model has longer battery life, a 300ppi screen, and charges via USB-C instead of Micro USB. By default, it also flaunts 16GB of storage and comes in a “denim” color, similar to the muted blue you might associate with jeans.

In the past, Amazon’s latest ad-supported Kindle has been reduced to $74.99 (a $25 discount) and includes three months of Kindle Unlimited. However, you can currently only buy the Kindle at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target, where it retails for $99.99. Amazon also typically sells bundles that include advertising, a power adapter, and a cloth cover, starting at about $150. However, this bundle is currently unavailable.

The latest basic Kindle isn’t the only e-reader Amazon is launching in 2022. Content. Like the previous generation of Kindle Kids, the latest model retails for $20 more than the base model, bringing the MSRP to $119.99.

In terms of add-ons, the new Kindle Kids edition comes with four items: the device, case, a two-year extended replacement warranty if the device is damaged, and one year of Amazon Kids Plus. Aside from the kid-friendly mode, the latter is the device’s biggest selling point, as it allows parents to grant their children access to games, movies, and books. During Amazon Prime Day, we saw Kindle Kids on sale for $99.99, which is $20 off its all-time low and the cheapest price we’ve seen since last year’s Black Friday sale. However, there aren’t any deals on it yet, so you can only buy the e-reader for the full retail price of $119.99 at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target.

Amazon’s latest Kindle Paperwhite is its 11th generation model and comes with USB-C support, longer battery life and a larger 6.8-inch display. The e-reader, which launched more than two years ago, often gets deep discounts at retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, especially around Black Friday and throughout the holiday season.

When the latest Kindle Paperwhite first launched in 2021, it was available in two entry-level configurations: an 8GB model with ads for $139.99, and an 8GB model without ads for $159.99. Both versions are hard to find in stock these days, though, and the 16GB ad-supported ($149.99) and ad-free ($169.99) versions tend to be easier to find. There’s also a 32GB ad-free Signature Edition for $189.99, which is the same as the standard Paperwhite, except it has Qi wireless charging and a sensor that automatically adjusts the backlight when needed.

Amazon also has a $169.99 Kindle Paperwhite Kids, which is very similar to the aforementioned Kindle Kids and comes with a childproof case, a two-year extended replacement warranty, and one year of Amazon Kids Plus. All 2021 models are also similar to the 2018 models, with waterproof designs and Audible audiobook support.

In the past, we’ve seen the Kindle Paperwhite drop all the way to $99.99. Unfortunately, the standalone Paperwhite with 16GB of storage is currently only $149.99 (full price) on Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. Alternatively, you can buy the 16GB Paperwhite with power adapter on Amazon and get the fabric case for $184.97 ($20 off) or the leather case for $191.97 ($20 off).

As for the 32GB ad-free Signature Edition, it’s currently available at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target, with the regular retail price of $189.99. However, you can buy the ad-free Signature Edition with 32GB of storage, a wireless charging base, and a leather case for $244.97 ($20 off) on Amazon. You can also get the e-reader with a cork cover and wireless charging base for $252.97 (a $20 discount), or with a fabric cover and wireless charging base for $237.97 (a $20 discount).

The ad-free Kindle Scribe is Amazon’s largest e-reader yet, and it also represents a departure from past Kindle models. It has a 10.2-inch 300 dpi display and the same excellent battery life as the Kindle. However, what sets the Scribe apart from other models is that it comes with one of two styluses that can be used to annotate books, doodle, or jot down notes. We found the e-reader’s note-taking capabilities to be lacking in testing, but Amazon has begun improving the software through free OTA software updates to help it keep pace with other E Ink competitors.

Recently, we saw the Kindle Scribe drop to an all-time low of $234.99 during Prime Day. However, you can currently only buy the 16GB base configuration, Basic Pen, and three months of Kindle Unlimited on Amazon and Target for a full retail price of $339.99. That being said, you can save money if you buy the 16GB Kindle Scribe with leather case and power adapter at Amazon for $389.97 ($60 off). Meanwhile, Premium Pen bundles are currently on sale, featuring shortcut buttons and a built-in eraser, in a 16GB configuration, with a leather case and power adapter, starting at $419.97 ($60 off).

Until recently, Amazon sold the 2019 Kindle Oasis. In addition to the 7-inch 300ppi e-ink display, the Oasis is also unique in that it provides physical page turning buttons. Unfortunately, however, this waterproof e-book reader is not available on Amazon or any other major retailer, nor is it in stock in mint condition. The international version of the e-reader is currently selling for $135 on Amazon (half price), but it’s probably not worth buying right now. Amazon won’t ship to U.S. addresses, and more notably, the Oasis is no longer listed as part of Amazon’s official Kindle lineup. This suggests Amazon may have discontinued it and we may see an updated version sometime in the near future.
